Daily Inspiration: Meet Monica Glasscock

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Glasscock.

Hi Monica, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
2016 Chuck and Barbara Gates had the vision to open this wonderful 3200′ gallery in Newbury, Ohio. The township is located just eight miles from Chagrin Falls and nestled in the center of Geauga County. I myself came on board just as we were nearing opening. Having more than 35 years of experience in professional custom framing and gallery management, it has been an amazing undertaking creating this space that is a destination location. I continue to be delighted by the many visitors who visit and support us from far and wide. We are entering our sixth year. It has been challenging, especially because over a year ago we lost both Barb and Chuck to health issues. With the fate of the gallery hanging in the balance, I powered on. Now I am on the threshold of taking over operations by partnering with two artists in what I believe will be a dynamic working relationship. Our future feels exciting to be sure.

The gallery currently represents 100 artists, mostly from Northeast Ohio and a few from the northeast US. We have everything from Animal Sculptures by Michigan artist Steve Wirtz whose work can’t help but bring a smile to anyone’s face created with wire and paper mache, to Zim Woodworking’s’ incredibly beautiful but functional cutting boards created by husband-and-wife team Gerry and Missy from Mantua, Ohio. This destination gallery is jampacked with original and unique art and gifts for any occasion.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Artisans is located in Newbury Township, A wonderful place but, no grocery store, no town center, and is not a place you would normally think to go visit. So, I am always excited when people have come from many miles away to visit the gallery.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Professional Picture Framer and Assemblage artist I pride myself in taking framing from just putting a picture into a frame to adding specialized and creative touches that are subtle yet enhance the art being framed, always on the search for something that sets my work apart from other framers. I am most proud of receiving First place and National Popular choice for a framing design I created for a competition put on by the Professional Picture Framers Association. Where all participants frame the same item, I am always amazed at how one thing can be presented in so many different ways.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I love when people come in for the first time and the first thing I hear is “WOW” from the outside you expect this little place but once you enter you are welcomed into a world of color, creativity, and craftsmanship. All of which are expertly displayed for maximum enjoyment and even those who visit often are always pleasantly surprised because I have rearranged and created a whole new look.

I am an artist at this gallery. Monica has a unique way of framing and a very artistic eye. She sets up the gallery with her heart and her head. I recommend visiting this wonderful unique gallery.
