Daily Inspiration: Meet Leah

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leah.

Hi Leah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have always had a passion for books and talking with friends about them. This past year, I’ve joined in some local book clubs and found that they were not hitting a certain genre that I, myself, particularly enjoyed to read so after talking with some friends, they gave me the idea to start a book club. I texted at least 10 different people asking if it would be a good idea then spent a long time trying to come up with the name of it. Finally, I settled on the name “Feral Gremlins,” which is actually a nickname I call my cat! I asked all of my friends to join and made an Instagram page and within a week I had over 100 followers. We are currently at over 300 followers and growing. Lots of independent authors have followed and message the club page and some aspiring authors have asked for us to read their book in future meetings. The goal is to have a safe space for everyone to be apart of.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been pretty smooth and slow coming. Everyone I have met has been so nice and inviting and open minded towards the books we have read in the group. It’s been really great meeting new people and making bookish friends within our community.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I started this bookclub as a way to get people who like to read the dark romance and dark romantasy together to discuss the books without fear of judgement or shame. I never yuck anyone’s yum. I encourage everyone to be there even if they haven’t read or finished the book. The book community has grown so much through TikTok and Instagram, that I just felt like everyone should have the chance to experience it.

What are your plans for the future?
I am hoping to grow the bookclub a little bit ways more. I’m hoping to create more big events and social gatherings than just in a bookstore. I am looking to do a bookish tattoo flash sale, make bouquets at a local farm in Cleveland, and other social events!
