Today we’d like to introduce you to Traé1k.
Traé1k, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Born and raised in Cleveland, I always had the passion for art since I was a child. Grew up drawing portraits of family members and celebs that I gravitated to. I remember my mom buying me Marvel comics and drawing books. My oldest brother is also an artist. He would finish a drawing and I would be right next to him trying to replicate it. Throughout school, I would always sketch in my portfolio that I had. I was sketch in my free time in my teen years.
In 2019, I picked up a paintbrush and went to town. At the time I came across Karen T (Artist). She complimented my art and she saw something in me. From that point on…I took my work serious.
The pandemic helped really post my artwork on social media. The start of 2021, I participated in my first group art show called,” The Cleveland mixes medium art and photography Show” After this experience, I was dedicated to show my art to as many people as I can. I’ve participated in several out of state Art exhibits such as the” Black Boy Art show” in Atlanta and “ArtOverdose” in Dallas. Recently, I had the opportunity with apart of “Cleveland Collabs”; a Collaboration show where Artist comes together and create different versions of art. Curated by Lacy Talley and Reginald Williams.
Paintings like, ”Ayye Ari”, “Goats”, and “Graduation” have been my most successful paintings. Approaching my fourth year of painting, I am truly thankful for everyone who has someone love and support tomorrow at work.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been like a Cleveland pothole. Things will come up and try to slow down your process but you have to keep pushing through it all. Sometimes artist block comes up and I don’t want to pick up and painting for weeks.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in original portrait paintings, pop art, murals, and resin. My style is bold and bright colors with dark outlines. Blue is my signature color when creating. It brings energy and life into the work. The color combinations are important because it can make or break a piece.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something people might not know is that I’m into men’s fashion. I will always pick up GQ magazine I won’t be impressed with all the looks.
