Conversations with Midwinter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Midwinter.

Hi Midwinter, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
It all started when bass lover Max Underwood decided he wanted to risk his life on Craigslist by answering an ad from Zac D’urso. Zac turned out to be a regular harmless guitar nerd, and they started making some noise. Once they found the rest of the band, Billy Toth, Rob Rini, and Kody Archer, they set sail on an epic journey to become the best band in the world (or at least the best band in our households).  Once 2022 rolled around, Midwinter came out with their debut single “Pariah,” then the sophomore single “Thorn” was released shortly after. We have big plans to release new music in the coming months. Our current lineup consists of Billy Toth (vocals), Kody Archer (guitar and vocals), Rob Rini (drums), Max Underwood (bass), and Zac D’Urso (guitar).

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Lot’s of time was wasted due to lineup changes, that whole pandemic thing you might have heard about, and other nonsense. Each of these caused significant setbacks to our progress but also forced us to figure out ways to overcome any challenges that come our way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We’re a 5-piece Progressive Metalcore band from Cleveland that draws inspiration from real life experiences, both physical and emotional. We try to portray those feelings through our poetic lyrical content and complex instrumentals to truly capture the variety of emotions felt during the time of writing. We are very committed to bringing a fresh and unique sound to the scene that demonstrates a pleasing balance of heavy instruments and vocals with atmospheric and melodic soundscapes.

What makes you happy?
What makes us most happy is creating music with our best friends and getting the opportunity to play that music in front of others. The feeling of completing a fully produced song and hearing it come to life, is a feeling that is impossible to put into words.

Also, velociraptors.
