Conversations with Kenda Moss

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenda Moss.

Hi Kenda, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
As I began the process of healing from Childhood trauma a search for organizations that could help began. When I discovered that Eve Center had a program: HATCH–Healing Abuse Through Christ’s Help–I was hooked. In 2012 I took the 12 week peer counseling program so that I could help others discover the same FREEDOM and NEW LIFE that I had gained as I began to heal.
Prior to processing the trauma of childhood sexual abuse I was angry, resentful, unable to love and unable to be loved. I had several self-destructive behaviors that I was using to cope with the pain.
Once I began processing what had happened, and the effects it had on my life, I felt like a whole new person–I felt like I went from darkness to Light–from death to Life–from captive to freedom.
Now, at Eve Center, I get to help others experience the same life transformation.
In 2013 I came on Staff at Eve Center as the Client Services Director. Since then I have worn every hat possible and in 2017 became the Executive Director.
I get to see the LORD do HIS amazing healing as we help thousands of women process their trauma and pain. We see the transformation every day and I am overwhelmed with JOY in what I get to call a job.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been full of absolute PRAISE and mourning: Highs and Lows. I had very little understanding of what it meant to run a ministry and I have just learned by doing. In my first 3 years Eve Center grew by 300% in the numbers of clients we were seeing. We had to develop new and more efficient processes to handle all those that were coming for healing. Our Budget increased by 300% as well; so we needed to increase our fund-raising. We have gone from 2 locations to 7 locations, so today I find myself more as an orchestra director–making sure all the instruments are in tune and playing their part well.
One challenge is staff and volunteer management. Everyone has their own unique set of gifts and experiences that intermingle with their personality and maturity level. This takes understanding, love and patience to manage well.
There is also constant change. I’d prefer to think we could arrive at the best process, but there is no arrival, just adapting to change.
As a ministry that is dealing with the DARK part of peoples lives, it can be hard to hear all the tragic stories; it can leave me wondering where the GOOD in the world is. But then I look at our 700+ volunteers who display the goodness and love of Jesus and I know there is HOPE.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At Eve Center we don’t want any woman to walk alone through her struggles, because we have been there. We are known as a safe, compassionate and caring place to process your pain and receive practical steps toward healing. We are known for walking out 2 Corinthians 1:3-6: God comforts us in our troubles SO THAT we can comfort others with the same comfort we have received.
The 3 things that set us apart: 1. all our services are FREE, 2. We connect you with a peer counselor who has been through something similar to what you are going through, 3. We rely on the love and power of Jesus for the healing process. We incorporate prayer and Biblical principals into the healing process.
I am most proud of our volunteers who freely give of their time to serve our clients so that we can offer free services. Our volunteers have been through their own traumas and just want to GIVE BACK. In a culture of busyness and self-interest, our volunteers joyously give their time and their treasures to help others, and to support one-another.
Just recently I reached out to a Volunteer who had lost her husband to cancer and discovered that several other volunteers were already loving and supporting her. That makes my heart SMILE!!
