Today we’d like to introduce you to Carolyn Bonini.
Hi Carolyn, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It is hard to say where my story starts. For as long as I can remember, I have been a creative person. I have always had a dream of making and selling my art. I have attempted many times throughout the years to market my art online. As any creative person will tell you, it is difficult to stand out amongst the many artists online. Time after time I tried and gave up. It wasn’t until this year that something clicked. I started laser cutting sheets of acrylic, and making earrings for myself and my family. For the first time, I didn’t rush to market my art, but continued to create slowly. I enjoyed the process, and organically felt like it was time to share what I was making. I decided to sell at a few markets in Columbus (Sohud Collective and Friendship Flea’s Festivus). My goal has been to be extremely curious about what people are looking for. Even though my business is new, I feel like I am off to a great start. Now the key is to continue to create, share, and experiment.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say that the road of life has been extremely bumpy, but this newest business venture has been smooth and easy. I think having low expectations and staying curious helps when things don’t look the way you want them to. I knew that starting my business would have a lot of learning curves, so I try to stay humble and patient.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a new creative business owner. My brand is called ‘Care’ – which is my nickname. I have mainly been making acrylic jewelry, but I plan to make other acrylic items as well (Stay tuned). I think what sets me apart from others, is that I have a lot of fun with color. While neutral colors have been very popular, I have chosen to be very bold with color and shape. I make jewelry that enhances the beauty of the wearer, by bringing out their vibrance. I always try to stay true to who I am by only making items that I would wear myself. Most would say that I am a bold, expressive person, and I think that comes through in my brand.
What matters most to you?
I think what matters most to me is to help empower others. Style can have a really big impact on the wearer. I sell items that most people may be a little bit intimidated to wear at first. However, it is important to be confident in ourselves and to flaunt what we got! I aim to make jewelry that won’t wear the person, but the person can wear to feel empowered and beautiful, no matter their gender identity, race, personality, etc. Everyone deserves to stand out and feel amazing and true to themselves.
