Today we’d like to introduce you to Kerri.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Fitness on High started with a simple idea: to create a space where movement isn’t just about burning calories—it’s about coming home to yourself. I’ve always believed that fitness, when paired with intention, can be a powerful tool for mental clarity, emotional balance, and self-empowerment. After years of working in leadership, education, and wellness, I saw an opportunity to bring something different to Oxford, Ohio—a boutique fitness studio that prioritized mindful movement, community, and transformation.
The idea really started to take shape when I connected with Tyler Storer and Jackson Trester, the dynamic duo behind OxVegas Chicken. They had launched their restaurant just a year earlier and had a deep pulse on what the Oxford community needed next. We agreed—Oxford was missing a high-quality fitness experience, and people were regularly driving 30 minutes or more just to access boutique classes like Reformer Pilates and hot yoga. Tyler and Jackson found the perfect location, and together, we started dreaming up what would become Fitness on High.
We opened our doors with the goal of offering more than just workouts—we wanted to create experiences that help people feel stronger, more connected, and more alive. From Reformer Pilates and hot yoga to strength training and mindfulness-based classes, everything we do is designed to support the whole person.
We’ve grown because of the community we’ve cultivated: students, professionals, and locals who show up for themselves and each other. What makes Fitness on High special is that it’s built on heart. We’re not trying to be the biggest—we’re trying to be the most intentional.
We’re just getting started—and we’re dreaming big. Oxford is our home base, but our vision is expansive. Movement is medicine, and we want to share it far and wide.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Smooth? Not exactly—more like a sprint uphill with a finish-line that kept moving.
Our biggest hurdle hit before we even opened: we signed the lease the first week of March. For anyone who knows a college town, that’s the eve of spring break—followed by six quiet weeks when students scatter until summer. We had two choices:
Play it safe. Close the doors, spend the spring perfecting every detail, and wait until August to launch.
Rip the Band-Aid off. Open immediately, learn in real time, and trust that hustle + heart could out-run inexperience.
We chose the Band-Aid.
That meant turning a former barbershop into a boutique fitness studio—complete with a heated Pilates room and an infrared sauna—in ten days. No exaggeration: ten. We lived on coffee, paint fumes, and playlists that kept us awake while we:
demoed old walls, installed furniture, and painted every surface;
hired and onboarded 30 instructors and 15 studio ambassadors (many in-between paint strokes);
built our class schedule, payment system, and social-media rollout—often from folding chairs surrounded by drop cloths.
Sleep? Mostly mythical. But alignment around the dream kept us energized.
On March 14th—still covered in specks of white paint—we swung open the doors with back-to-back free classes. Within 48 hours, 250 people had booked a spot. The buzz confirmed what we suspected: Oxford was ready and waiting.
Since then, we’ve faced plenty of “learning moments”. Yet each challenge sharpened our mission and tightened our community.
Was it smooth? No. Was it worth every all-nighter? Absolutely.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Fitness on High is a boutique fitness studio located in the heart of Oxford, Ohio—and we’re more than just a place to sweat. We’re a movement for mindful strength, inclusive wellness, and community-driven transformation.
We specialize in Reformer Pilates, hot studio classes (pilates and yoga), strength building classes, and functional movement experiences designed to challenge your body and center your mind. From beginners to athletes, our classes are intentionally crafted to be accessible, inspiring, and growth-oriented. Every class is taught by instructors who care just as much about your well-being as your form.
But what truly sets us apart is the vibe. We’ve created an environment that feels like home—where you’re celebrated for showing up exactly as you are. It’s not about perfection; it’s about presence. Our heated room, infrared sauna, and calming aesthetic were all designed to help people reset—not just physically, but emotionally and mentally.
We’re known for our energy, our instructors’ deep care for students, and our ability to make fitness feel personal. Whether it’s your first time on a reformer or your hundredth, you’ll feel seen, supported, and uplifted.
Brand-wise, we’re most proud of the culture we’ve created: one that invites people to slow down, tune in, and move with intention. At Fitness on High, we believe that movement is medicine—and that when people feel strong, grounded, and connected to their bodies, they show up better for themselves and their communities.
We’re here to change the way people experience fitness. We want readers to know that if you’re ever in Oxford, you don’t need to drive to Cincinnati or Columbus to find world-class Pilates or hot yoga—we’ve got it right here. And if you’re someone who’s never felt “at home” in a traditional gym, this is your place.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Start before you’re ready. Perfection is the enemy of momentum.
If you wait for the stars to align or for everything to be “figured out,” you might miss your window. We opened Fitness on High with 10 days of prep and a whole lot of heart—and it wasn’t perfect. But we learned by doing, we showed up every single day, and that’s what made the difference.
Also: don’t try to do it all alone. Find people who believe in the dream with you. Our success came from shared vision, not solo hustle. The team—our instructors, ambassadors, and community—is the brand.
And finally, protect your energy. As a founder, it’s easy to burn out giving everything to the business. But your clarity, creativity, and leadership all depend on your well-being. Make rest part of the plan, not a reward.
If I could go back, I’d tell myself: trust your gut, take the leap, and keep showing up. You’ll grow into the person your dream needs you to become.
