Community Highlights: Meet Kendall Body of MrBodyPhotography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendall Body.

Kendall, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My mother has been an artist all of her life. When I was a child, I would always find myself so amazed at what my mother would be able to draw from her own two hands. She would oftentimes find books with famous pieces of art in them and I would just sit and be in awe at how beautiful the pieces of art were. Fast forward to my sophomore year in high school (2011), I was placed in a photography class for an elective and loved it instantly. As a class, we’d all go out and do street photography, taking pictures of objects that caught our eye. One day, my father came home with a brand-new camera for the purpose of capturing all of my sibling’s high school graduations. Whenever he’d be at work, I would find his camera and take pictures of things around the house and would delete them so he wouldn’t know I was practicing with his brand-new camera. Every so often, we would get to an event that we would like memories of, so I would constantly bug my pops for his camera and would usually be the one taking the photos in the end.

In May of 2021, my family and I had to endure an unexpected passing in the family. It was then that I had to do some self-reflection on what I valued most in life, and that is to ensure we do not miss the opportunities for memories to be made. I’ve always believed it is ok to “live in the moment”, but it is also okay to capture it as well. Therefore, in September of 2021, with the support of my wife who gave me that last bit of push, I decided to make my photography hobby into a business. I believe every photo has its story. Realizing how precious each life is, I want to help people tell their stories in the form of photos. That is why I specialize in wedding/portraiture photography. It allows me to get to know the individual or couple’s stories. Engaging in meaningful conversations, learning from one another, and really just have a good time. I love what I do. I love to hear of everyone’s reactions to when they first get their photos back. To be remembered of how they felt at the time of their photos being taken. From constantly taking my father’s camera at the age of 15, to being a professional wedding photographer at the age of 26, I am so glad I get to continue to master this craft I fell in love with from the beginning.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Only having launched my business in September 2021, I entered right at the end of wedding season. So, for a few months, it was very difficult finding clientele. However, I managed to do quite a few engagement sessions in that time and second-shot a wedding in October 2021. Come to my surprise, I was hired to be the lead photographer a wedding in March of this year. So, the time in which I thought was a struggling season, was preparing me to finally go solo in shooting weddings.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about MrBodyPhotography?
I’m a professional wedding and portraiture photographer based in Columbus, Ohio. Though I take my time on each and every photo I edit to send back to my clients, I have been told my turnaround time is much faster than others they’ve researched in the area. I would say I am most proud to say about my business is that I treat each and every client more than just a client but as brand-new friends. I am very extroverted, so when I say I strive to make sure my clients are having a good time, I truly mean it. To establish a good connection with my clients is priority because I never want them feel as though they are just another dollar sign to me. They’re entrusting me to tell their story, so I want to build that trust with them as best I can.

What are your plans for the future?
My ultimate goal is open my own studio. Having my own studio would give me SO much more creative room for me to work with. So, as I continue to learn new things and master this craft every day, I plan to do this full-time to be able to save up and purchase my own space to expand my creative abilities. Don’t get me wrong, I love using the environment around and still create art that way, but there’s something about studio photography that is just so incredible to see.
