Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Steven Crane.
Hi Dr. Steven, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m a United States Marine Corps Veteran, and my transition out of the military was rough. I ended up homeless for a period of time, trying to figure life out while also fighting the VA for benefits I knew I had earned.
What hit me early on was how confusing the system is. It is not simple. It is not intuitive. And if you do not understand how it works, you are at a serious disadvantage. I spent years going back and forth with the VA, getting denied, getting frustrated, and trying to make sense of it.
At some point, I realized something that changed everything for me. The system runs on medical evidence. Not just having issues, not just telling your story, but having the right medical documentation in the right way. Once that clicked, I started digging into it. I studied how claims are actually evaluated, why people get denied, and what separates approvals from denials.
What I saw was that a lot of veterans are not losing because they do not deserve benefits, because the system hates veterans. They are losing because their claims are not built correctly and are not supported by the necessary third-party medical evidence.
That is where 360 Veteran came from.
I started it because I did not want other veterans to go through what I went through. I wanted to give them a clear path. Help them understand what matters, how to approach the process, and how to build their case the right way from the beginning.
It has grown from there, but the mission has not changed. It is about giving veterans clarity, structure, and real support in a system that can feel overwhelming if you are trying to navigate it on your own.
Everything I do with 360 Veteran comes from lived experience. I have been on the side of confusion, frustration, and feeling like no one is really explaining things. That is why I am so direct about it now. Veterans deserve to understand how this system actually works.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it has not been a smooth road at all.
One of the biggest challenges is the space itself. There are a lot of companies out there calling themselves “claim consultants” that are charging veterans an arm and a leg, not following VA rules, and in some cases putting veterans in a bad position without them even realizing it.
That creates a ripple effect. Veterans get taken advantage of, the system gets tighter, and then companies that are actually trying to do things the right way get lumped into the same conversation.
From day one, I made a decision that 360 Veteran was going to be built differently. We are not a claim consulting company. We are a medical company. We focus on helping veterans develop the medical evidence they need, and we work alongside attorneys and VSOs, not against them. Everything we do is centered around compliance.
I have gone as far as having conversations with the Office of Inspector General to make sure we are operating the right way. That is how serious I am about it. Because at the end of the day, if you are cutting corners in this space, you are not just running a bad business, you are putting veterans at risk.
The hard part is that most veterans do not see what is happening behind the scenes. They just see ads, promises, and big claims. So a big part of my job has been education. Explaining how this system actually works, what is allowed, what is not, and why it matters.
And to be honest, even doing things the right way, you still get accused of doing it wrong. That is probably one of the most frustrating parts. You can be fully transparent, fully compliant, putting the veteran first, and still deal with criticism from people who do not understand the difference or do not want to.
But I accept that as part of it. If you are going to operate at a high level in a space like this, you are going to get questioned. I would rather deal with that than ever compromise on doing things the right way.
For me, it always comes back to one thing. The veteran has to be taken care of. Everything else is secondary. If you stay grounded in that, you can handle the noise.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
360 Veteran is a medical evidence company focused on helping veterans build stronger VA disability claims the right way. We do not file claims, and we do not act as consultants. What we do is help veterans develop the medical documentation they actually need to give their claim a real chance.
That is where most veterans struggle. They know something is wrong, they know they should be rated, but they do not understand how the VA evaluates claims or what kind of evidence carries weight. That is where we come in. We focus on clarity, structure, and making sure the medical side of the claim is done correctly.
We work alongside attorneys and VSOs, not against them. Everyone has a role in this process, and when it is done right, the veteran wins.
What really sets us apart is how seriously we take doing things the right way. This is a space where a lot of companies cut corners or operate in gray areas. That was never going to be us. Everything we do is built around compliance, transparency, and making sure the veteran is protected. If you lose sight of that, you should not be in this business.
Brand wise, the thing I am most proud of is that we are 100 percent referral based. I am not a marketer. I am a Marine. I believe if you take care of people, do right by them, and stay consistent, the growth will come. That is exactly what happened.
We have never needed to be the loudest company or the biggest name. We focused on helping one veteran at a time, and those veterans told other veterans. That is how this community works. If you do right by one, they will bring ten more. If you do wrong, that spreads just as fast.
What we have built is based on trust and relationships, not hype. It has taken time, and it is not always the fastest path, but it is the one I believe in.
At the end of the day, I want people to understand that 360 Veteran exists for one reason. To make sure veterans are not walking into this process blind. To give them a real shot at getting what they earned, without being misled or taken advantage of.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something that might surprise people is that I actually hate the fact that 360 Veteran even needs to exist.
In a perfect world, the VA process would be simple, clear, and easy for veterans to navigate on their own. It should not take years of frustration, denials, and confusion just for someone to access benefits they already earned.
The reality is, the system is extremely cumbersome. It is complex, slow, and hard for the average veteran to understand without help. That is the gap companies like mine step into.
There is also a lot of noise around “claim sharks” and bad actors in this space, and some of that criticism is valid. But what most people do not stop and think about is this: industries like this only get flooded with bad actors when the system itself is broken.
If the process were clear and worked the way it should, there would be no room for companies to take advantage of people in the first place.
So while I am proud of what we have built with 360 Veteran and the impact we have on veterans’ lives, I would much rather see a system that works so well that companies like mine are not necessary at all.
Until that happens, I am going to keep doing everything I can to make sure veterans are not left trying to figure it out alone.
