Community Highlights: Meet Ciara Williams of Love You, Ci

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ciara Williams.

Hi Ciara, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hello, all! My name is Ciara, but people call me Ci! I grew up in Columbus, Ohio, and was always a creative kid. I spent a lot of time drawing and writing for fun. That transferred into my young adult life, which led me to study applied communications and graphic design at Kent State University.

I got my start in makeup during my freshman year of college (2015/2016). It all started with me being bored in my dorm room one day. I had a thought, while watching makeup tutorials on YouTube, that maybe I could do makeup! I began to purchase makeup from the drugstore and practice on myself. It was at that time that I began to record YouTube videos and post to my channel. I did my own makeup just about every single day. I didn’t care about what people thought. I knew that I wanted to get better, which meant I had to continue practicing.

After some time, I started to practice on my friends. I wanted to see if I liked doing makeup on other people and not just myself. To my surprise, I loved it! At first, I would do it for fun, but the better I got, the more people would ask me to do their makeup for special events.

By my senior year of college, I began to take clients and also became the Vice President of MUA Kent State, a makeup organization on Kent’s campus. I had the pleasure of being the official makeup artist for one of the school’s magazines as well. My passion continued to grow more than I anticipated.

Fast forward to the present day, and I have been blessed to touch the faces of hundreds of beautiful people. It brings me such joy to be able to do what I love and meet amazing souls in the process!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. As I stated previously, I went to college for applied communications and graphic design. After graduating in May 2019, I was in a constant battle of figuring out what I wanted to do with my life. Society has a narrative that you have to go to college, graduate, and get a full-time job right after graduating. I tried to follow that process, but it was not at all fulfilling. I stayed at my 9-5 for a little over a year and the whole time I just wanted to do makeup. I was miserable. I tried to do faces on my off days here and there, but it wasn’t much. Then the pandemic hit and stopped everything. I wasn’t able to take clients for a long time. I thought that I would lose my skill and passion, but I used that time to create more looks on myself and post to my Instagram. I was trying to stay relevant. Another struggle I had was making a name for myself and building clientele in Columbus. There are already so many talented MUAs here that have been doing this business for longer than I have. It was hard and still is difficult at times, to stand out in a saturated industry. I had to rely heavily on word-of-mouth referrals. In April of 2021, I officially created my brand/business and announced it to the world via social media. It was finally time to step out on faith, pursue my calling full-time, and even take myself seriously. I’ve worked so hard to get to where I am today. There were times that I took clients for free just to practice looks because I didn’t have any consistent clientele. I look back to see how far I have come and I’m grateful for it all.

We’ve been impressed with Love You, Ci LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Love You, Ci is like my stamp. It’s similar to “Sincerely, Ci” as if it’s an ending to a letter, only this is to my clients and supporters. The second meaning is also special and is a play on words. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I want you to love what you see (Love You, Ci) looking back at you as you view yourself in the mirror.

Love You, Ci is committed to giving you an experience you won’t forget. We welcome all skin tones and skin types. We love all makeup looks from natural to glitz and glam. You will leave the makeup chair feeling and looking beautiful!

I am proud of the overall growth I have seen in my brand. We just celebrated our 1-year anniversary and surpassed 1.5K on Instagram. The love and support I get each and every day is an amazing feeling. We also just moved into our very own suite in downtown Columbus. It’s awesome to see what I’ve been praying for coming to fruition.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
First and foremost, God. He has blessed me with this passion and vision. He has kept me through all the ups and downs I have faced. Even when I felt alone on this journey, He was there. My parents and close friends have helped me tremendously with their words of encouragement, advice, prayers, and overall support for what I am trying to accomplish. Lastly, my clients have my full gratitude for helping make Love You, Ci what it has become/what it will become in the future.
