Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianna Hatfield
Brianna, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I always loved having a space that smells good, whether it was incense, candles, or wax melts. I never grew up with allergies but with now having pets and a boyfriend with allergies meant that I could no longer just burn anything I wanted. After our kitty had a bad reaction to a wall plug-in fragrance, I had to do something. I ordered a candle making kit that was strictly soy wax and clean fragrance. It quickly became my favorite hobby. Along with this hobby, came extensive research about what is actually released into the air from our cleaners, candles, perfumes, etc. After finally finding a clean recipe for candles, 100% soy wax, and 100% clean fragrance, I decided to launch a small etsy business. As a college student, this was something feasible on my stovetop, without taking me away from my other enjoyments. Plus, who doesn’t like candles?!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest struggle has been financing, college kids are broke! On top of financing, you have to make sure your product is good quality to deserve the profit. Starting out, it feels like no one knows about your new business, and it’s hard to get it out there, making business very slow. Let’s just say I have been venturing through many marketing tactics!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am most proud of my inventory and how they are handmade with care, using high-quality ingredients. All of my candles are hand-poured and made in small batches. I also allow customers to create their own scent combinations. Personalized products can make great gifts and add a special touch.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
As a kid, I was a Figure Skater, it was such a beautiful sport and I loved every second of it.
