Today we’d like to introduce you to Todd Reed
Hi Todd, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I Embarked on this SFX fabrication journey 6 years ago. I was “punched down” upon by other Ohio fabrication artists when I first started. I took their negativity and “trash talking” with a grain of salt, and turned it into fuel. I used that fuel to push myself above and beyond any goals that I set for myself.
Presently, I’m doing more art and projects than any of the people that considered themselves my competition.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Never a smooth road, always a challenge!
I’ve always been good at problem solving in a clutch. The only struggles that I’ve had was getting offered jobs for larger projects, by non artistic people who do not understand the process, and question your capabilities.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m A sculptor, painter, mask maker, digital artist, musician, actor, Director, layout, artist, photographer, editor, Set designer, marketer, advertisement, designer, and the list goes on.
I’m self taught, and I have managed to go from novice status, to college art instructor, to having my own fabrication business, film school andHalloween attraction in about six years.
What sent me apart from others is that I am nice to other people in the business. I love to collaborate and to network. Some people work in eight hour day, but I usually work 16 to 18 hours a day on average. I am always exploring new boundaries, and expanding my knowledge in this field. I literally created over 100 different pieces of artwork in 2024.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I often joke with my friends about how much I don’t like most horror movies! I have really high standards when it comes to movies, and I often feel like the film craftsmanship in more recent years has fallen short.
