Check Out Shawna Horvath’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shawna Horvath.

Hi Shawna, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I opened Liberty Farm of Lambertville, LLC in 2017 and it took off like a wildfire. After a few years, my husband and I felt it would be a good idea to look for a second venue. That’s when we found the house that is now known as Liberty House of Waterville. We opened Liberty house in the spring of 2021 coming out of Covid.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think with any business there are always struggles. Once my sister and I secured the property we immediately begin work on bringing it back to its original state. We purchased the property in the fall of 2019 and we believed we were going to open in the spring of 2020. There was a lot of red tape to get through with making sure that this historic building was up to code and suitable for patrons. Then, as we all know, Covid hit and delayed our opening further, but it worked out for the best because the venue we were truly able to put the time and energy into the venue to make sure that when we opened, it was spectacular. Within the first six months of opening, my sister no longer wanted to be involved with the venue. I truly was not prepared to take on this business by myself, since I already was solely running another six months out of the year. It took some readjusting, but it worked out in the end.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am actually a teacher and I run two event venues, Liberty Farm of Lambertville and Liberty House of Waterville. What sets our venues apart from others is that we keep the price low and provide an unbelievable amount of amenities. One of my passions is decorating and table scapes. When you rent from us, you are provided with many options of beautiful table decorations at no cost. Our venues are warm and inviting, and not a typical square box that someone has to try to make welcoming. My husband and I also started a nonprofit back in 2018 called Let’s Build. Our charity provides beds to children who currently do not have one of their own. We provide them with a new bed frame, that volunteers make, a new twin mattress, comforter, sheet set and pillow. I am within five years of retiring from teaching, and all three of our ventures are extremely successful.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Change is constant. Just when you think you’ve hit a place where you can be comfortable, there is always a way to make things better and improve.
