Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Rollison.
Hi Morgan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Ever since I was a kid around the fourth grade, I had wanted to be a fashion designer. I would watch America’s Next Top Model and study the industry and look at fashion magazines and read about designers. Anything pertaining to the fashion industry had my attention. My mom taught me how to so at a young age too. My mom and sister are only 5’1 and I’m 5’2 so sometimes we had to alter our own clothes and ever since then I have been sewing. At first, it was solely just an interest and passion of my, and then I wanted to turn a passion into a career. My parents bought me a new machine for Christmas 2020 and that’s when I got serious about it.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing about being a creative is going to be smooth to be honest. Sometimes you hit creative blocks where you can’t think of anything. The hardest struggle is understanding that not everyone is going to like what you creative or have positive things to say about it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a cut and sew designer which means everything I create has been cut from raw fabric and sewn by me. I’m most proud the growth that I have made during this journey, there’s always something new to learn. What sets me apart from others is my authenticity with my designs. Everything I make came straight from my brain.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My advice is don’t be afraid or stubborn to ask for help! I know I need help a lot. Don’t be afraid to sign up for events because you’re “not ready” or don’t think you’re “good enough”. Show up to everything and talk to everyone! Put yourself out there.
