Check Out Courtney Price’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Price.

Hi Courtney, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up in San Diego, California and from a very young age, I knew right from the start that I wanted to be in the hair industry. We had a family friend that owned a salon with a view over the water. I would always watch her when my family came for haircuts and the joy of going into a salon and coming out looking and feeling amazing was something I fell in love with. Once I graduated hair school, I worked at a big salon for four years and it really helped me perfect my skills. Those four years really taught me a lot about what direction I wanted to take my business. I wanted to have more control over my schedule and wanted to branch out more into this industry. After building up my clientele me and a partner felt like it was time venture out and start a small salon space for ourselves. That year we created No.18 Salon. One thing we learned quickly is how much work owning your own business is. It is a lot of work but the most rewarding. My partner went on to open her own salon, which is amazing and I took full control of No.18 Salon.

One thing I have really loved about this industry is that it’s ever-changing. There are constantly new fields and services that you can do. I love doing something different every day it keeps it exciting. I love doing weddings, photoshoots, makeup, extensions, and color.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There has definitely been some challenges with being my own boss. The biggest is time management. Once I’ve had a busy day, I still need to work on creating new social media posts or getting back to emails or phone calls. Running your own business is so rewarding but there is a lot of sacrifices that you have to make to do that.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Something that inspires me is the natural beauty in everything. I love that everything and every one is created so different from each other. My passion is enhancing that. I specialize in natural coloring styles such as balayages and highlights. I also specialize in bridal hair and makeup. I’m really proud of the relationships that I’ve built with my clientele and the trust that comes with that. Together me and clients have created amazing work.

My passion to make sure that my clients leave my salon happy and confident is what sets me apart from others.

Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I think the biggest risk that I took was starting a business on my own to be my own boss. If I’m being honest being your own boss, every day has its own scary risks. A risk if you’re doing something that’s going to make or hurt your business. It’s really challenging and scary because I’ve worked so hard for what I’ve created. I never thought of myself as risk taker but that’s certainly changed.
