Hidden Gems: Meet Eric Castle of Your Pet’s Companion

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Castle.

Hi Eric, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started in 2021 after a friend’s suggestion to formalize my animal care experience. With 8 years on the Marion Area Humane Society board and as a long-time animal welfare advocate, I launched in-home pet sitting Your Pet’s Companion (YourPetsCompanion.com). Today, I have over 5 years of professional experience, more than 10 clients and growing, providing compassionate, customized care to pets in central Ohio.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it hasn’t been a completely smooth road. It started as a slow burn, relying mainly on word-of-mouth and referrals. In-home pet sitting requires clients to trust a relative stranger in their home, which takes time. The business ebbs and flows—it’s not steady. Busy seasons are mainly spring/summer vacations and holidays. I also compete against traditional boarding facilities and pet sitting apps. Growing through display ads, blogs, and email newsletters has been challenging.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Your Pet’s Companion provides in-home pet sitting in central Ohio. I specialize in personalized, loving care inside your home: feeding, walking, playtime, medication administration, litter box cleaning, customized routines, companionship to reduce anxiety, daily updates, and emergency handling.

What sets me apart is the high-trust, in-home experience versus boarding facilities or apps. Compared to boarding facilities, at-home pet sitting offers a more comfortable and personalized experience for your pet. Staying in their familiar home environment helps reduce anxiety, while also lowering the risk of exposure to illnesses from other animals. Your pet receives one-on-one, tailored care without being confined to a box, and you avoid the hassle of strict drop-off and pick-up times.

Thinking of asking your friends or family members to drop by or pet sit? Compared to relying on friends or family, it also ensures a more dependable and consistent level of care—without disrupting your friends or family’s schedules. Professional sitters can provide reliable visits or even 24/7 attention if needed, and they’re experienced in handling pets with a variety of needs and temperaments that your friends or family may not want to undertake.

I’m most proud of building a reputation for compassionate, reliable care. My focus is always on your pet’s well-being, safety, and happiness while you’re away—without the stress of a disruptive transition to a new environment or inconsistent drop-in visits. The result is a calm, familiar experience for both you and your pet.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Times have changed from what we were taught growing up—never get in a car with strangers or let them into your home. Now, we order Ubers, groceries, fast food, and more, all delivered right to our door for convenience. At-home pet sitting is the next step in that shift, making both your life and your pet’s life a little easier.
