Hi Dawn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Dawn Whiteside and my business Dawn’s Discoveries was created as a homage to my beloved mother, who passed away in 2020. Her love for accessories, all things sparkly, and beautiful inspired me from a young age. Through her passion, I was introduced to the joy of finding beauty in the little things and fell in love with the sparkle that made her shine. So, what started as a vision officially manifested and my journey to honor my mother’s memory and share the joy she instilled in me began.
Dedicated to providing a one-of-a-kind shopping experience, Dawn’s Discoveries is an online boutique that sells unique jewelry, some of which is handcrafted, along with accessories that will make you shine and stand out in a crowd. My commitment is to empower women one accessory at a time.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Although starting Dawn’s Discoveries has been an incredible journey of self-discovery, the journey has been filled with both challenges and obstacles. I would say one of the biggest obstacles I faced was overcoming my own fear of failure and the uncertainty about whether I could create a successful business. Pushing past the doubt was one of the hardest, yet most rewarding, parts of this experience, and it taught me the importance of believing in myself and my vision.
I learned that success is built on the foundation of hard work, resilience, and the drive to keep going no matter the challenges!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have always been a people person, and my work has consistently focused on serving others and bringing joy to their lives.
With 30 years of experience in retail management, spanning both small and large retailers, I am passionate about helping people look and feel their best.
I also hold a degree in Psychology, which has empowered me to elevate my customers’ shopping experience into a more emotionally healing journey. My ultimate goal is to create a space where shopping goes beyond just finding the perfect item but also fosters emotional well-being.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
As the youngest of four older brothers and the only girl, I grew up tough, but I also embraced who I was as a young girl and proudly celebrated my femininity. I was a shy individual, but that changed in high school. That’s when I blossomed into someone who was always talking, giving advice, dancing, and most importantly embracing my love for fashion and jewelry. I wasn’t afraid to be unique and express my individuality.
In junior high and high school, I was on the basketball and volleyball team, showcasing that I could embrace both my love for fashion and sports.
