Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert (Buddy) Henson (Lewis).
Hi Robert (Buddy), so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Well I’ve had the idea for years! After some tragedy in my life took place and the job that I held down for over 7 years gave me an ultimatum to return to work earlier than I requested after 2 untimely deaths back to back in my family it showed me the lack of compassion and empathy they displayed towards me for all the years of service I provided meant nothing to them I decided it was the right time and I’m very spiritual and into my religion to me that was a sign from above to move forward with my dream of owning and providing a place for everyday hard working people to be able to get the cool things they want and the Necessities they need for a fraction of the price with the big box stores closing slowly 1 by 1 I figured this would be a great time to get started and provide the people of Cleveland my hometown a new type of shopping experience. So we created The Bargain Guys a Deep discount liquidation bin store we get pallets of close out overstocked discontinued return items at a fraction of the normal cost. My business partner/friend teamed up with me (Will Smith Sr.) and thought it would be a great idea as well here we our about to celebrate our 1 year anniversary of business we definitely appreciate the attention from you guys and this great opportunity to showcase who we are and what we’re about so thanks
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
By far absolutely not a smooth ride all kinds of personal issues when we first opened our door to the public family health issues became a thing we had to address. I had to learn to navigate these new waters I was in of being a caregiver to family members as well as stay dedicated to my business and I’m self employed contracted by the state to transport developmentally disabled adults by doing non-medical transport for them I’ve worked with them in this field for about 16 years now I love to serve that community and give back and do what I can to help those individuals & families by providing them a service that give them peace of mind knowing their loved ones will be in great hands. Also learning the ins and outs of new business and just willing to adapt when new situations arise. I tell you what I’ve shown myself something within that I didn’t know I was capable of so to anyone reading this and having doubt I say pray about it and if it’s really in your heart and spirit go for it!
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Bargain Guys?
Well I think I touched on most of this in the last question but here is what I can add to that. Again I’m in this business to mostly help the community we’re in but unfortunately because we’re in such a diverse area of town which includes mostly foreigners they dont under our concept or they expect to get even better discounted prices which in today’s market is impossible we price our items as low as possible but most folks forget we’re a business we have monthly overhead which means every dollar we cut on our prices is a dollar we have to make up in other areas I wish folks would just understand that instead of trying to talk us down on what is an already a great discount price we want folks to get those high priced items even though it may be hard times financially we understand that why we’re practicing some old school business tactics that businesses steered away from which is Lawaway we are a first come first serve business so layway gives people the opportunity to get those great deals on items that they would otherwise miss out on. We’re always brainstorming trying to figure out a way to give the public the best buying opportunity and deals on great merchandise from top sellers and retail stores were all familiar with ones we know and loved over the years
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Well I don’t believe in luck I believe in Blessings I know I’ve mentioned religion a lot but it’s a huge part of who I am and what The Bargain Guys are we’re God fearing people who want to be part of something way bigger than us here. No luck to me all God’s timing and his blessings
