Hi Jalyn, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, a city that instilled in me a strong sense of community and determination. My journey has been woven with experiences from living in Atlanta’s dynamic atmosphere to Cleveland’s industrious spirit. I attended Wittenberg University, where I majored in Sociology, a field that deepened my understanding of societal dynamics and human interactions.

My path to becoming a lawyer began at Cleveland State University. After graduating, I gained valuable experience working in public service with the Ohio Legislature and the Court of Common Pleas. These roles solidified my decision to become a lawyer. After 5 years of being in the workforce, I decided to go back to school. I was exposed to lawyers everyday sometimes being involved in legislative committee hearings or even a criminal jury trial. This exposure sparked my curiosity, and I was confident that I could do it too! After working full time and going to school at night, I graduated and went on to obtain my law licenses in both Ohio and Georgia.

Working in Corporate America allowed me to develop skills in business, risk mitigation and Compliance. Yet, the entrepreneurial spirit within me yearned for more. In 2019, I made the bold decision to chart my own course and launched The J. Parks Firm. Specializing in Business, Intellectual Property, and Family Law, my firm stands as a testament to my dedication and vision.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has not been smooth; however, I firmly believe that our lives are defined by how we handle failures and navigate the unexpected. Balancing my roles as a mother, fiance, entrepreneur and career woman added new layers to my journey.

While my some of my greatest achievements include graduating from law school, passing two bar exams, and starting The J. Parks Firm, none of these milestones came without significant challenges. They all came with delays that seemed like denials; rejections that were ultimately were God’s redirection and overcoming fears that led to personal breakthroughs. There have always been barriers to face but it’s always been the fight of ME vs. ME. I know there will always be struggles and disappointments, but the greats are defined by how they get up after being let down. It may take me some time, but I’ve promised myself that I will never waste a failure. Finding the lesson and coming out stronger will always be the goal.

We’ve been impressed with The J. Parks Firm, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The J. Parks Firm is a legal haven for creatives, entrepreneurs, influencers, and athletes. As a creative myself, I understand the unique challenges and opportunities that come with building and protecting a brand. My journey into law heightened my awareness of the specific needs of entrepreneurs and the vital role legal support plays in their success.

How do you think about happiness?
I recall answering this question five years ago when I was single and just starting my business. Back then, my happiness was individually focused, but it has evolved significantly over the years. Now, as a fiancée and mother to three wonderful sons—DeLoni (13), Zander (11), and Kairo (2)—my whole life and purpose have been redefined.

Basketball has become a big part of our family life. Supporting my sons’ basketball dreams means everything to me. We travel across the country for their games, and watching them develop their skills and passion on the court is exhilarating. They’ve garnered a large following and have a lot of influence on social media, which adds another layer of excitement and pride. Also, seeing my fiancé achieve personal milestones and be the most amazing dad ever makes is a blessing from God.. These moments send my serotonin levels through the roof!

Happiness also means being true to myself and being surrounded by people who allow me to be my authentic self. Each day is a gift; I find joy in traveling, watching my plants grow, and putting together the perfect outfit for date night with my man or a girls’ night out. Recently, I had a rare weekend alone at home. I ordered my favorite sushi, poured a glass of wine, and fell asleep to House of Dragons. Years ago, that would’ve seemed boring; today, moments like these bring clarity and offer a chance to reset.

Ultimately, happiness is a blend of personal fulfillment and the joy of witnessing my loved ones flourish. It’s about embracing every moment, being grateful for the journey and uplifting others along the way.
