Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacobi Hairston.
Hi Jacobi, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I started my business, Cobi’s Confections, in 2022, shortly after Valentine’s Day. I started off by making and selling cake jars which is just cake and icing layered on top of each other in jars, at school. Then, from there, I started selling Chocolate Covered Strawberries. After that, I started selling breakfast plates. So, everything went hand in hand. My prices were very cheap. I feel as if my business has come this far because of my community and the students at my school, Linden McKinley, supporting me and sharing my work with their peers.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
For the most part, it has been a smooth road, but some of the struggles I have dealt with are timing, consistency, planning, and perfecting what I do. I am a very visual person, so if I have an idea, I try to make it come to life, but when and if it doesn’t, I sometimes get discouraged. Like when business is slow, I try to put myself out there and make sure my customers know that I’m still here.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Cobi’s Confections?
My business name, Cobi’s Confections, comes from my nickname, “Cobi,” and a word I thought went good with what I was marketing, “confections”. I specialize in making treats such as Cake Jars, chocolate-covered treats (Strawberries, Oreos, Pretzels, Rice Krispie Treats, and more), and selling plates occasionally (breakfast and dinner). A few things that set me apart from other businesses or organizations is my want for everyone to be included. My prices for my menu items are considered cheap in today’s world. I make sure my prices stay low because I don’t believe in paying for simple things at an extreme price. I know I’m paying for the product and your time and effort, but it should never be anything extremely over the top. Also, my business for anyone to order from, on any day or occasion. I love talking through orders with my clients if they want something custom to them or if it’s for someone else and they want something specific. I always make sure I try to bring that to life. I’m proud of how far my business and brand has come. For all the readers out there, my name is Jacobi Hairston, I am a 16-year-old black teenager with a dream of success, located on the north side of Columbus Ohio. We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
One surprising thing that most people don’t know about me is I also inspire to be a hair stylist and have my own business on top of the business I have currently. I want to be a wig stylist that specializes in Lace fronts, Quick weaves, and more.
