Today we’d like to introduce you to Trish Ostroski.
Hi Trish, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
All of my life, I have been fascinated by the way people think, become creative, and communicate in general. I lived in Los Angeles and worked in advertising. I had been with the company I worked for 16 years and then was laid off following a merger. In a few months, I began to take classes at the Hypnosis Motivation Institute in Los Angeles, and in about a year I completed the program. I began to see clients in Los Angeles.
Some people made the comment that hypnosis is far different from advertising. However, communication and thinking played key roles in both fields. I have always had a preference for creativity in a career field. Both provided a lot of creativity and continually upgraded your skills. I had wanted to serve in the Peace Corps since I was a teenager. In 2013, I went to serve in Eastern Europe in Moldova. I worked in community and organizational development. I loved the experience both for its challenges and the special rewards. Following my service, I returned to my native Ohio to help care for my mother while she gradually made her move to heaven. Soon after, I began seeking an office and setting things up to resume my hypnotherapy vocation. I am fortunate to both live in Cuyahoga Falls and have my office there. I feel that I have made a difference in many people’s lives with my services.
Building a small business has helped me engage in my community. In the last couple of years, I wrote a book entitled “There’s a Rooster in My Bathroom! A Quest for Meaning in the Bathroom, the Boardroom and Beyond. The book includes a variety of stories and life lessons from all facets of my life from Hollywood, Peace Corps, hypnosis, and more.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Well, life is a journey and so are the parts of it. I had the first office also in Cuyahoga Falls and then decided to move to downtown Cuyahoga Falls to gain more exposure. Choosing the best tools and means of promoting a business is always a challenge and more recently I am taking advantage of social media.
I discovered that a number of people in Ohio were not as familiar as those in Los Angeles with hypnosis/hypnotherapy leading to some interesting questions and possible confusion. However, that is the power of communication, growth, and connection.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have written for a wide range of publications and books. My writing skills help me to come up with unique scripts to suit each client’s presenting issue, personality, and style. I feel this has made me effective. When possible and appropriate, I like to have fun with the process by inserting some humor and adding some rich conversation. I am proud of my diverse background, adaptability, and creative skills.
I like to serve the community and serving a client well benefits the community. I have received a number of awards for speaking, writing, and creative skills. I have been well-honored in my communities and that makes me proud. While serving in the Peace Corps, I helped establish the first International City of Peace in a former Soviet Union country. That has encouraged me to always do more.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Mental health has often been overlooked, misunderstood, and belittled. We have come out of that for the most part.
However, we all need to work on our mental health just as we go to doctors and dentists on a regular basis. So too, we should address mental health whether that is via seeing a therapist, attending a seminar, reading pertinent books, or establishing stronger habits and awareness. Mental health is extremely important and will continue to be much more recognized in the next 5-10 years for all the possibilities, hopes, and insights that are available.
